    revox bremse

    Hello

i've got a couple of brakes for a revox b77 but the orange/yellow thing on it is end of life.

what is this orange/yellow thing? It looks like a kind of tape, with the characteristics of sand paper (but it's not sand paper otherwise the metal bands wouldn't hold).

Is the orange/yellow stuff available in the shops? What is its name?

    thanks for the advise

    Hi Steve,

the designation is brake lining. (Bremsbelag) But I’m unsure the lining is available as a single item – very probably you have purchase the entire brake drum.

Have you tried to clean the linings with alcohol and treat carefully with some sandpaper grain 240 or finer?

Often the linings are hard and this causes noise when stopping the tape from fast winding. I never cared for the noise as long the tape stops without loops. Usually I switch to the other direction and push the Stop button if the tape is in the turn around point. So I never needed to fix the brakes on my own devices.

      hello

No, the brake lining is really worn out and some of it has come of from the brake drumm.

If this adhesive is not available what can you use instead? Using sandpaper and sticking it on the brake drumm won't help because you will destroy the brake itself (the metal band surounding the brake).

and this adhesive on the brake: what is this stuff?

many thanks again for your help.

(got atleast 10 of these brakes but I can't use them for repairs because there is no adhesive on them anymore that is properly usable).

The ME term to look for is "Bremsband", which comes in all varieties and sizes from various manufactureres, just don't go with the type used in many oldtimer cars

What do you mean by "ME term"?

ME is just the common US/GB acronym for mechanical engineering

              ahhhh ok, thanks!

does someone know what material the brakelining are made off?
              revox.de didn't know the answer.

I suggest asking manufacturers/suppliers for the best recommendation in terms of material combination. I suppose the drum is made of aluminium alloy, so the brake tape should have fairly low abrasive properties or you will end up with lots of aluminium dust.... The brake strength will be affected not just by the material combination, which will set the friction coefficient. Likewise, the brake tape tension and the angle of enlacement around the drum are of relevance. I suppose Revox calls out a nominal brake tape tension in the service manual. Similarly, the tension of the manetic tape should be known. This will allow, with the other parameters mentioned above, specifying the correct friction coefficient and thus brake material.
