    B225 start failure (english, sorry)

Sorry for English language. If someone prefers to answer in German no problem, I will try to translate in some way.

    I am a ReVox lover (I have a B225 and a B780).

My cdplayer B225 works fine but sometimes has a small problem, especially when it's cold (first use in the day).

When I press 'play' after inserting a CD, the CD spins slowly for 1/2 seconds producing a bad metallic sound (it seems an abnormal friction), then stops. Then spins again for 1/2 seconds in same way, then stops again.

It does this sequence for three-four times, then stops definitively and display shows all '0'. The TOC isn't recognized.

If I press play again same thing happens, start procedure fails again.

The only sure way to eliminate the problem is turn off the player with 'Power' key and turn it on again.

But if I make this procedure *before* to press play, the cd always start in correct way. No stops, no metallic sound...runs freely and TOC is recognized.

I could solve this problem in this way (every time that i want to play a CD I must press power 'on' and 'off' twice), but I hope that someone could help me to solve this problem in a correct way.

Laser lens were cleaned (Some month ago I had some problem in recognizing tracks, but after cleaning all returned OK).

    Thanks
    Francesco

AW: B225 start failure (english, sorry)

    Hi Francesco,
no worries. The only secure way making a B225 working perfectly for the next 30-30 years is to replace ALL 59 electrolytic capacitors, first of all on the IR Receiver-, power supply and laser contol board. If blue, the 26-pole cable should be replaced, too. Of course it´s a lot of work at he first sight, but replacing just a few is bullshit, cause one is just as old as all the others.
    Regards,
    Reinhard

Thanks Reinhard, but I prefer to conserve my revox more 'original' possible.

I had an electrolytic capacitor failure on power board of my receiver B780 (fuses burned) but I replaced only faulty capacitor because was easy to understand where was the problem.

In this case I don't know where the problem could be...

        Hi Francesco,

fine, if you want to run into problems every now and again

Honestly, ceeping all the old blue Philips Capacitors has nothing to do with "conserve" your B225 as you say - its just not wise because:

        a) they haven't been any good in the first place,
        b) because of ageing they getting even worse.

Take Reinhards advise and replace all these beasties - and enjoy a functioning B225

        ....
