Revox B790 - Dynavetor Karat 23 Moving Coil Cartridge

    Hello everyone,
I succesfully mounted a Dynavector Karat 23 Ruby on my Revox B790
First of all I bought a service manual and I applied by myself all the modifications that Revox suggested through the years. With an oscilloscpe and a digital multimeter I adjusted the electronics.
Then I modified 2 hexagonal screws cutting the grooves for 5mm near the hex head of the screw (using a Dremel drill) and wiht a ball-end Hex key (innensechskant-schlusselsatz mit kugelkopf) I inserted these 2 screws on the top of linatracK arm. So when I turn the screw into the bolt, when I reach the cutted grooves area the screw is free. So I can fit the DV-Karat cartridge tightening it from the upper side using that Hex key with an angle of 25°.
    This is the result:
Virgilio: News nazionali e locali, Login, accesso Mail e PEC, Sport, Oroscopo, Gossip, Finanza, Economia, Video, Mail e Motore di Ricerca.

I think this is a great MC cartridge and it is perfect with the linatrack arm because the conjunction of the the short arm and the short ruby cantilever of this cartridge (only 2.3 mm) can reduce and virtually eliminate most of the subsonic frequencies.

17D2MKll Karat Diamond is the first cartridge built using 'dispersion' theory. Its Micro-Ridge stylus and very short (1.7mm) solid diamond cantilever give a huge reduction in 'frequency dispersion', unmatched dynamics and a high frequency extension all the way up to 100kHz. The latest patented magnet circuit design increases the output to 0.26mV with crystal clear mid-range and treble even during the largest symphonic crescendos.

Dynavector is highly regarded as a manufacture of high performance phono cartridges and tornearm based on advanced theory.Innovatively designed moving coil cartridges since 1975. The music lover can be guaranteed listening pleasure at any price point.

    Hope this could be helpully.
    Bye.

    Hi Nicola,
congratulations! That looks very nice to me!!

When I’ve looked at your pictures I’ve found two things you should also change:

    1. the rubber lift damper could be replaced by the metal one, which allows you to control the speed in the downward direction
    2. the LED (e.g. pig. six) is recommended to be replaced

Another thing: what happened to the string and spring on pig. 13?
If I remember right the spring should be stretched 2,5 cm.

Another thing is: did you check the tone arm - system resonance? It should be in the range of 8 to 10 Hz.

If it is in the range of 10 to 16Hz, you will have to increase the effective mass of the Linatrack Arm by increasing its weight – that’s a bit tricky but will give you a much better sound – promised!!

A good tool to check it is the test record “image hifi lp003”

      Hello,
      thanks for your suggestions.
First of all I've just ordered the new lift damper. I'm waiting for it.
Which is the led that has to be replaced?
The spring is stretched because I've to change it ant the string. I've ordered them.
How can I chech the resonance of the arm? And how can I find that "image hifi lp003". I've ordered the damper, the string and spring here in Italy but I've to wait much time. Where I can find spares quickly?
      Thanks.
      Nicola

        Hello Nicola,
Which is the led that has to be replaced?
It is this little white thing underneath the Arm Print (Fig. 5.4 in the Service Manual).

How can I chech the resonance of the arm? And how can I find that "image hifi lp003".
It is explained in the record booklet of the test record "image hifi lp003”, lock at www.image-hifi.de or www.vinyl-records.de

Where I can find spares quickly?
How about ordering parts etc. from http://www.revoxservice.ch/service/

I'm sure our swiss revox fans do have better information...

I’ve severe PC Problems at the moment, so I’m not sure when I will be online again
