    B780 Tape Monitor Function?

    Hello,

    I have my Revox B77 connected to a B780.

When i record music on my B77 i want to use the monitor switch on the B77 to switch between INPUT and TAPE and listen i real time how the recording sounds.

But there is no way to do that on the B780, there's no Tape Monitor function?
I set AUX to the TAPE outputs, and connect OUTPUT from B77 to TAPE IN in the B780, but if i select TAPE as the input source it does not work, i still hear whatever i have on AUX IN.

    Is this normal?

    AW: B780 Tape Monitor Function?

    Hi

Of course this works with the B780, but it won't work the way you are trying. You don't need a tape monitor on the B780 as it has a rec out selector and you can listen to a different source while recording another.

    - Connect both input and output of the B77 to input and output of Tape 1 or Tape 2
    - If you want to record a source other than tuner or phono, connect it to AUX or the remaining Tape 1 or Tape 2
    - Select the source you want to record with "record output set" by pressing the red button "set" and then selecting the number
    - Choose the source you connected the B77 to (see above, Tape 1 or Tape 2)
    - now you can control your recording by using the input selector of the B77 to switch between input and tape

Have a look at: Pages 64 and 65 in the operation manual

      Thank you for your answer.

That is exactly how i'm doing it, maybe i didn't explain it good :-)

The problem is when i switch INPUT on B77 to TAPE, i get a weird hissing sound as if there is some kind of feedback.

No matter which input source i select while recording, i still hear AUX IN.
So when i select TAPE1 the hissing sound comes from (i think) hearing both AUX IN and TAPE1 at the same time, but with a tiny time difference.

Sorry, it's difficult to explain what i mean..

Look at this video, if it looks and sounds normal to you.

How does it sound if you connect a headphone to the jack on the B77?
Just to make shure the hiss is not caused by the B77.

Headphone jack on B77 is ok, when switching between TAPE and INPUT i can hear the small time difference, and no hissing sound.

            Re: B780 Tape Monitor Function?

If anyone is curious what the problem was..

In an earlier life, someone has modified the Audio Connection Unit.
The outputs from the connection unit to the preamp was connected directly to both TAPE OUT, bypassing all switches in IC2 and IC3.

            See attached image.

No idea why, someone obviously wanted signal to TAPE OUT no matter what.
Removed the cables and all works as expected now.
